WARMING UP
June 2026
It’s nearly six months since…and this is my first holiday. I’m in Walberswick, Suffolk, with my besties: some of the crew who were with me 24/7 in the very early days.
I chose this spot for many reasons and the sun has shone on us. Even as we WFC “Work From Cottage”.
Working for me is now, a lot, reading and thinking. My job is to track the trends and ideas of work and life for clients and a change of scenery is very conducive to getting cogs turning freshly.
“The future of work can be more worthy of the human mind, more careful of the human body, more satisfying to the human soul. But not without a fight”
- Sarah O’Connor
Sarah o’Connor’s important and beautifully paced book tells the story of change through human stories and a lot of manual work. Even manual brain work like translating. Do read it.
Being in a landscape rich with nature and human-made work - Maggi Hambling’s astonishing sculpture on Aldeburgh Beach vies for my eternal love alongside the regional specialism of putting pebble and brick together - is a good way to think about humans and machines.
The sea air, the beautiful surroundings all contribute to a sense of difference and even - not exclusively - peace.
Work and life and life’s work is about perspective, love, pain and recovery. Adapting to changing circumstances.
Here’s to it.
