Well, it’s a moment to celebrate hard work which finally pays off - but not for the traditional record labels. This is Raye, the incredible singer-songwriter, who spent seven years trying to get Parlophone to release her album only to end up doing it herself: The album 21st Cenury Blues which she picked up a total of six BRIT awards for, is very ostentatiously published by “Human Re Sources”, an LA-Based distribution outfit.
What I’ve been Up To This Week
My latest book, Working Assumptions is nearly cooked - I mean, nearly edited and nearly on the presses. You can - if you are inclined - pre-order here. This book is a really fast turnaround to try and capture the ins and outs of changes to work and the workplace since 2022, ie since the moment we began to ‘go back’ to work post Pandemic. Except, obviously, we didn’t as planned.
So I’ve been madly editing, refining, adding. I am also giving a number of private talks to bespoke audiences and if you are at all interested in this, do let me know directly: julia@thenowhereoffice.com.
What’s been happening Out There
Three things to draw your attention to this week.
Remote Working Countries of the World: Ireland, Poland….read this for more.
But the pushback to go back is far bigger and when you do go back to the office, you’re one of the lucky ones if it’s being refurbished to suit hybrid patterns, even though 80% of European offices have at least 10% working hybrid . According to a new report a staggering 80% + of offices simply don’t have anything like the tech to support the way we work now, which is in screen-based meetings.
As for the culture wars of hybrid? Oh they still continue, and they are getting ugly. Just look at IBM: Put up or get out is their message. A bet is being made that the fear of a loose Labor market will propel people back to the office and it may be the case: Faced with no job or a fully present job you might in the short term take it. But will you bring your ‘best self’ to it? Doubtful.
That’s it from me. Be good. work hard.
